Medication for painful knuckle joints

Pain resulting from arthritis in the fingers can be excruciating, just like arthritis pain in any other part of the body. This severe pain usually comes with severe swelling and redness of the joints. The knuckles may also be itchy which some people may find strange, but this is part of the process of inflammation. Naturally, with the severe pain will come inability to use the affected fingers.

There are several things you can do to help relieve the pain of sore swollen knuckles. Some of these will start working immediately. Others are long term and will reduce soreness and swelling of arthritic knuckles over time.

Over the counter medication for pain and swelling in the knuckles

When taking arthritis pain relieving medication, it is usual to start with over-the-counter (OTC) pain medication. This can be bought from your local drugstore or online without a prescription. Some OTC medication usually recommended to stop the pain of arthritis in the knuckles and sore swollen knuckles include:

Acetaminophen (common brand is Tylenol)- you can take up to 2 arthritis strength Tylenol every 8 hours. It is kinder on the stomach than some drugs like ibuprofen. However, taking more than the recommended dose can cause liver damage. Taking Tylenol with a lot of alcohol can also damage the liver.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) – these include aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxen. These will relieve pain and swelling in the knuckles. They also have several serious side effects which include heart attacks, strokes and stomach ulcers. The older you are the more likely you are to suffer from side effects. NSAIDS should be taken with food or milk, never on an empty stomach.

Prescription medications for painful knuckle joints.

Prescription medications are also good for arthritis pain but as the name implies, they can only be given to you if they are prescribed by your healthcare provider. Prescription medications are usually recommended when acetaminophen and NSAIDS are not able to relieve pain and swelling in fingers and other parts of the body.

Some prescription medication for painful knuckle joints include:

Biologics which include etanercept (Enbrel) and adalimumab (Humira).

Corticosteroids – these are taken by mouth or by can be injected into painful knuckle joints. They help to reduce the pain and inflammation.

Disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARD) – These include methotrexate (also used for treating some forms of cancer) and penicillamine.

Immunosupressants – these are used to treat painful knuckle joints when other medication has failed to improve arthritis symptoms.

Zyflamend – a natural and effective alternative to over-the-counter and prescription drugs for arthritis in knuckle joints

Both OTC and prescription medications can relieve pain and swelling of arthritis in the knuckle joints. However, they have many serious side effects. So what is good for arthritis pain and swelling? Try Zyflamend. Zyflamend is an all natural preparation that contains a combination of pure herbs including rosemary, ginger, turmeric, hu zhang and others which help to reduce the pain and swelling in knuckles of both fingers and toes naturally. Best of all, no major side effects have been reported from using Zyflamend.
Another problem is that prescription medications can be very expensive. You can’t say the same for Zyflamend.

What is Zyflamend and what does it do?

Helps reduce inflammation in the body

Helps keep joints, bones and heart healthy

Contains 10 tried and trusted herbs

All natural formula

#1 selling supplement for promoting a healthy inflammation

Clinically tested and recommended by doctors

Side effects of Zyflamend are minimal

Every part of your body is affected by inflammation in one way or another even if you don’t have arthritis. Research has shown that certain herbs and spices can help to regulate inflammation in the body.

What is Zyflamend

Zyflamend is a blend of 10 potent herbs known for many years to help with unhealthy inflammation, improve general health and relieve pain of arthritic finger joints and in fact arthritis pain anywhere in the body. These 10 wonderful herbs and spices are:

holy basil

turmeric

ginger

green tea

rosemary

hu zhang

chinese goldthread

barberry

oregano

baikal skullcap

All these work together to reduce abnormal inflammation.

How does Zyflamend work?

Zyflamend works by inhibiting an enzyme ( a chemical in the body) known as COX-2 which takes part in abnormal inflammatory processes in the body. This is the same enzyme that is targeted by some of the expensive prescription medication for arthritis and pain. Zyflamend acts in the same way but without the many risks and side effects of these drugs.

Why should I use Zyflamend?

Zyflamend gives you effective pain relief and much more without the hefty price tag or inconvenient/ serious side effects of some prescription medications. It uses organic ingredients without any artificial additives and preservatives.

So what are the side effects of Zyflamend?

No serious side effects of Zyflamend have been reported in spite of the fact that thousands of people have used it to relieve various health conditions related to inflammation. A few people have complained of loose bowel movements. This usually subsides if the dosage of Zyflamend is reduced or if you stop taking it. When compared to some side effects of OTC and prescription medications like stroke, heart attacks, kidney damage, liver damage and bleeding from the intestines, this is very mild when compared to the potential benefits.
Of course if you are allergic to any of the components of Zyflamend, you should avoid it.

Zyflamend reviews

As both a professional massage therapist, and as someone who has my own share of aches and pains, Zyflamend is one of the best
products I’ve found on the market. Unlike many prescription medications which have both high markup, & some unwanted side-effects, this product does the job and is reasonably priced.

…what greater way is there to take something that controls imflammation. I have osteo arthritus in my hips and it works for me….with out the risk and side effects of Viox and all the other prescription drugs that attack the cox two inhibitors. Must be taken in the middle of a meal. It will digest better.

I injured my knees skiing in my 20′s when I fell and my bindings didn’t give. My knees began to give me significant trouble in my 50′s and I tried zyflamend to avoid the anti-inflammatory/arthritis drugs that were being recalled. Zyflamend has helped tremendously. I can squat and recover while gardening, walk for a couple hours and ride my bike without discomfort now. All these activities were painful before I started the zyflamend.

I have been suffering from chronic achilles tendonitis for years. Always icing it down and taking ibuprofen. Recently I went to physical therapy for six weeks. It helped, but I still had pain and had to ice it down frequently. Someone from integrative medicine recommended Zyflamend and it has been a godsend. I tooke them for a couple of weeks and it was a tremendous difference.

For several years now, anytime we would have otherwise felt the need for an ibuprofen, Tylenol or other pain medicine, we generally take Zyflamend instead due to the anti-inflammatory properties. We have used Zyflamend for joint pain such as when my husband broke his hip and later when his back sustained a compression fracture as well as for heart health – docs gave him 2 weeks or less to live due to Acute on Chronic Severe Congestive Heart Failure, Stage 3 and 4 yet we are on Year 4 and counting

Normally, the ends of bones are covered with a tissue called cartilage. This cartilage allows the two ends of the bone to glide over each other smoothly. The cartilage also acts as a shock absorber so that there is less impact and pressure on the bone when you walk, jump or put pressure on your joints in any way.

When the cartilage is damaged, worn down or absent altogether at the ends of the bones, the bones rub together causing pain and swelling of the joint. Whenever there is a breakdown of cartilage from any cause, then arthritis occurs.

The body tries to make up for the lost cartilage by producing more fluid in the joint to allow the bones to move smoothly over each other. Unfortunately, this results in the knuckles swelling up due to excess fluid. The swelling stretches the joints leading to knuckle soreness. The swollen knuckles also make it difficult to move the fingers and bend or straighten them making them stiff.

Risk Factors for developing arthritis in the knuckles

There are certain things that can increase your risk of developing arthritic knuckles. These include:

Getting older – the older you are the more stress joints would have had to go through compared to a younger person

Being overweight – carrying too much weight increases the load that your joints have to carry particularly in the hip, knee and ankle joints

Injuries to the bones that make up a joint – a joint that has had any injury in the past is 7X more likely to become arthritic than one that hasn’t even if the injury was treated properly.

Genetic diseases – there may be development of arthritis in the knuckles as part of another disease in other parts of the body, these are usually inherited

Inherited abnormality of the joints and cartilage may make arthritic more common

Some jobs and sports may lead to repeated stress on the joints e.g assembling small parts in a factory or playing sports like tennis

If the arthritis in the fingers is not treated, the bones at the affected joints gradually lose their shape and become deformed. This can lead to more pain and interferes even more with normal movement of the fingers.

How do you know you have arthritis in the knuckles?
Arthritis is inflammation of a joint and a joint is where two bones meet. Signs and symptoms of inflammation in any part of the body are:

swelling

redness

pain

heat

loss of function i.e. limited movement

You know you have arthritic knuckles if:

you have knuckle soreness

you find your knuckles swelling

you have finger knuckle pain

your knuckles feel warmer than the rest of your body

you have stiffness in the finger joints and you find it difficult to bend or straighten your fingers and thumbs properly

Finger knuckle pain in arthritis in the knuckles

Knuckle soreness and pain is usually one of the earliest symptoms of arthritis in the knuckles. You may feel a dull pain or burning in the joints. You may notice the pain more after using your hands to grip or hold something for a long time. The pain may not start immediately but several hours after using the hands. You may also experience finger joint pain first thing in the morning.

As the arthritis in the finger joints gets worse, you may start having knuckle soreness at night and it might even wake you up. You may also have more pain when it rains. You may find that the more you use your hands the worse the pain becomes.

Other symptoms of arthritic fingers

Knuckle swelling occurs as a result of using the hands too much. This causes stress on the finger joints which swell in response to stop you using the hands any more. The joints become red and warm as part of the body’s response to injury.
You may hear a grating sound and maybe also feel it when you move the affected joints. This is due to damaged cartilage and ligaments rubbing on each other.

Inflammation of the finger knuckles can be caused by several things including:

autoimmune disease

bacterial or viral infections

a broken bone

general wear and tear of everyday life

Usually the inflammation in the knuckles subsides when the cause is found and treated. If the inflammation doesn’t go away, then the arthritis in the knuckles is said to be chronic.

The most common form of arthritis affecting the body generally and the hands in particular, is osteoarthritis.
Arthritis can affect different joints all over the body. The most common joints affected include the neck, the lower spine, the hip joints, joints of the wrist and fingers and the knees.
The hand has many small joints that work together to carry out small everyday tasks. When you have knuckle soreness and swollen finger knuckles, it can make life much more difficult.
